PENAMPANG: Awards presented to school children during appreciation ceremonies serve as a recognition of their hard work and aim to inspire them to strive for excellence in future.

The Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Datuk Ewon Benedick said this in his speech during the Year 6 Student Appreciation Ceremony of SK Bahang Penampang for the 2024-2025 session. His speech was delivered by the Political Secretary Carl Mosoom.

Success requires effort, discipline, and support from teachers, parents, and friends, Ewon said adding that the students have the potential to be an outstanding generation that will make their parents proud and able to give back to the community, he stated.

He also said that the roles of parents and teachers are crucial in nurturing children, who need attention, love, and guidance to grow into well-rounded individuals in both academics and character.

He mentioned that his Ministry have 10 agencies that provide various programmes not only for entrepreneurs but also for education.

Among them, the Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) which implements educational, social, and economic programmes.

YBR provides scholarships and financial assistance to qualified students, especially from low-income families, school assistance for primary and secondary students for the purchase of school stationery, the Back To School programme, and many more to ensure that every individual, regardless of background, has the same opportunity to achieve success.

"The Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM) also plays an important role in promoting and supporting school cooperatives as a platform to educate students about entrepreneurship, financial management, and cooperative values."

"For those interested in entrepreneurship, we also have our own university, Universiti Keusahawanan Koperasi Malaysia (UKKM) managed by Institut Koperasi Malaysia (IKMa)."

This university offers various educational and training programmes focused on entrepreneurship, cooperative management, accounting, and cooperative finance at the diploma and bachelor's degree levels, he said.

"I will continue to provide special allocations for educational development programmes for all primary and secondary schools in the Penampang and Kadamaian areas," he said adding that he started this programme last year by providing school assistance to all secondary and primary schools, namely RM10,000 for secondary schools and RM5,000 for primary schools in Kadamaian and Penampang.
