LAHAD DATU: The Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL), nestled in the heart of Danum Valley, has always prioritised the safety of its guests during their stay in this pristine wilderness.
As part of this commitment, BRL, a subsidiary of The Yayasan Sabah Group of Companies, recently conducted a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training course for its staff.
The week-long course, held in collaboration with Lahad Datu Hospital, has been established as an annual event.
Dr. Andi Md Shamsureezal Mohd Sainal, Director of Lahad Datu Hospital, was present to support the practical training facilitated by orthopedic specialists, emergency medical professionals, and medical officers from the hospital.
“The training is designed to enhance the safety confidence of the Borneo Rainforest team in the event of an emergency,” said Sail Jamaludin, BRL's Director of Operations.
The practical training focused on essential skills for first responders, particularly important given that the lodge is a two-hour drive from Lahad Datu Hospital.
“The staff learns how to use the first aid kit, administer basic medications, and operate the automated external defibrillator (AED) to assist individuals experiencing cardiac arrest,” he explained.
“The team is also trained to manage soft tissue injuries, wounds, fractures, and is introduced to various types of animal bites and how to address them when faced with such situations,” he added.
He emphasized that periodic refreshers of these skills are essential to ensure the overall safety of both the lodge and its guests.
With health and safety as top priorities, the lodge also provides an on-site clinic for guests visiting the conservation area.
