KOTA KINABALU: The Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL), nestled in the heart of Danum Valley, enhanced food safety knowledge among its staff, recently.

BRL a subsidiary of the Yayasan Sabah Group of Companies, initiated Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) awareness training, according to BRL's Director of Operations, Sail Jamaludin.

According to him, BRL has long prioritised good hygiene practices (GHP) to ensure guest safety while they immerse themselves in the pristine wilderness.

Organised by KS Consulting Solutions PLT, this training is specifically designed for food safety team members, supervisors, and managers, equipping them with essential hygiene practices.

“HACCP principles are vital for maintaining food safety standards,” he emphasized.

Before implementing HACCP—a comprehensive food safety management system that identifies, evaluates, and controls food hazards—a company must first establish a solid hygiene foundation to protect consumers, explained the organisers.

“This training introduced participants to the key elements of GHP, which are crucial for the successful implementation of HACCP,” said Freddie, a representative from the organising team.

Participants gained valuable insights into food safety hazards, including allergens, and learned how to conduct hazard analyses, identify Critical Control Points (CCPs), establish critical limits, and set up monitoring systems.

Moreover, the training covered risk assessment, corrective actions, verification and validation processes, as well as documentation and record control related to HACCP.

To ensure an engaging learning experience, the training was structured into teams and included a blend of lectures, group activities, discussions, and presentations.

This interactive approach fostered a deeper understanding of the material and its application in real-world scenarios.
