KOTA KINABALU: In a bid to promote environmental awareness, the Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL), nestled in the Danum Valley of Lahad Datu, hosted a series of activities from March 15 to 22 in conjunction with Earth Hour 2025.

The initiative featured a candle-lighting ceremony as a symbolic gesture to highlight energy conservation, according to BRL Chief Executive Officer Freddie Coleman.

“A tree-planting initiative was carried out as part of our long-term commitment to sustainability and environmental restoration.

“Educational talks focusing on nocturnal wildlife conservation were also held, emphasising the importance of preserving habitats for creatures that thrive in the dark,” Freddie explained.

Additionally, an eco-documentary screening night showcased films on climate change, deforestation, and wildlife conservation.

As part of its digital engagement strategy, BRL launched a social media challenge, inviting visitors to capture and share their best nighttime photographs taken at BRL.

“The most captivating images will be featured on BRL’s official social media platforms, with winners receiving exclusive BRL t-shirts,” he added.

The week-long event culminated on March 22 with the observance of Earth Hour, during which all non-essential lights were switched off for 60 minutes as a symbolic stand against climate change.

BRL encourages the public to participate in these activities and contribute to global sustainability efforts.
