Capable govt needed to tackle global economy downhill next year - Rowindy

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia will need a strong and capable government to weather the storm as the global economy takes a turn for the worse next year said UPKO Supreme Council Member Rowindy Lawrence Odong.
Rowindy who is the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Kimanis P.176 parliamentary seat said the International Monetary Fund has predicted that global growths will slow down to 2.7% in 2023 and that for most people it will feel like a recession.
She said Malaysians and Sabahans in particular must be wise in choosing leaders that can steer Malaysia through the storm and not put the fate of the country in the hands of corruptors.
Rowindy who is contesting for the first time is concerned with the choices that Sabahans will make. She fears that they fail to see this election from a broader context without considering the global economic slow down that will most likely worsen in 2023.
“This is a very crucial time for all of us, not just Sabahans but for everyone in the country. We have a very important decision to make on November 19...we will decide who will form the government to help steer us through the hard times in 2023.
“The IMF predicts global growth will slow to 2.7% next year which is 0.2 percentage points lower than it’s July forecast and anticipates that 2023 will feel like a recession for millions of people around the world.
“It will be a very difficult challenge for the government to weather this storm. We must ensure that only capable and transparent leaders are tasked to steer us through it because the worst is yet to come.
“We do not want leaders with corruption charges hanging over their heads. We need strong and capable leaders like Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Rafizi Ramli to guide us,” Rowindy said.
She said with Anwar's impeccable track record as finance minister and Rafizi's proven business acumen, the country will be in safe hands to navigate through any economic turmoil ahead.
She also banked on the integrity and transparency of all PH candidates as a sure way towards Malaysian economic recovery.
Towards this end Rowindy urged Sabahans to think long and hard before casting their votes. She said they must make the right choice and avoid from making a potentially disastrous mistake.
“Voting for Warisan will not ensure a strong government because they will need to cooperate with the opponent in order to come to power.
“Voting for Pakatan Harapan is the only sure way to ensure a strong government that will not falter,” she said.
