PENAMPANG: Donating wheelchairs and hospital beds to those in need is a crucial way to support individuals facing health challenges, as it significantly enhances their quality of life while fostering a culture of care and community involvement.

For 88-year-old Hermes Mojikon, a resident of Kampung Tuavon here, receiving a hospital bed has been a tremendous benefit. Home hospital beds provide essential support and comfort, allowing caregivers to assist more effectively. This is not only comfortable but also improves health monitoring and facilitates recovery.

Recognising these needs, the Penampang Parliament office has extended its support by providing individuals with such items and one of the recipients was Hermes.

This thoughtful initiative was made possible through the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), represented by Deputy President Datuk Donald Mojuntin, who was accompanied by Bryan Matasing, the Penampang Parliament Liaison Officer.

Hermes’ son Jack Mojikon thanked UPKO and its President Datuk Ewon Benedick for the kind gesture, stressing that he appreciated the donation to his father and that such dedication to the constituents was lauded.

Meanwhile, Geordie Sulin, a 55-year-old resident of Kg Bukitas expressed his heartfelt gratitude to UPKO for their generous donation of a hospital bed.

“The bed is quite comfortable and allows me to adjust my position easily, which has made a significant difference in my daily life,” he shared.

Geordie noted that the new bed has greatly uplifted his spirits during this challenging time. Currently battling colon-rectal cancer, he is undergoing ongoing treatment and medical reviews.

He also took the opportunity to extend his sincere thanks and appreciation to all the donors who made this contribution possible, acknowledging the positive impact it has had on his recovery journey.

Meanwhile, a patient named Yansim Masual, who is suffering from kidney disease and gout, received a compassionate contribution in the form of a commode chair toilet from Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR), an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative (MEDC), led by Datuk Ewon Benedick.

Bryan Matasing, along with his office staff, Charles Liew, and Jenson Masuin, the Head of the Kg. Luyang Baru UPKO branch, travelled to Yansim's home in Kg. Luyang Baru to present the item.

The commode chair toilet offers a convenient and accessible solution for individuals who may struggle with using a standard toilet due to mobility issues, illness, or recovery from surgery.

Designed to be portable, commode chairs can be placed in various locations, allowing users to maintain their dignity and independence while effectively addressing their personal hygiene needs.
