KOTA KINABALU: The Chung Hwa Sepanggar Cultural Association is set to compete in a Unicorn Dance competition scheduled for November 23 to 24 at the Kota Kinabalu Community Centre.

According to the association's spokesperson, Chew Kok Ban, they will be facing off against 20 other teams during this exciting event. He anticipates that approximately 500 attendees will gather to witness the performances, which will also feature international participants.

Chew made these remarks after receiving a generous contribution of RM10,000 from the Penampang Parliament Service Centre, represented by Alvin Lee.

Expressing gratitude for the support, Chew stated, “We are very thankful for this contribution. Our goal is not only to win this competition but also to play a significant role in preserving our culture and traditions here in Sabah.”

In addition to their immediate goals, Chew expressed a broader aspiration for the future, hoping that the Lion Dance will eventually be recognised as a competitive sport in the Olympics.

Furthermore, he highlighted the association's commitment to cultural cohesion, noting that their performances often include participants from various ethnic backgrounds, not just the Chinese community.

This inclusivity reflects the association's dedication to fostering unity and appreciation for the diverse cultural heritage of Sabah.
