Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak is new chairman of Bank Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDC) has announced the appointment of Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak as the Chairman of Bank Rakyat, effective today.

The Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick, stated that the appointment was based on his leadership qualities and extensive experience during his tenure as Acting Chairman since November 1, 2022.

"MEDC has full confidence in his qualifications, experience, and credibility to assume this responsibility and support the mission and vision of Bank Rakyat in continuing its support for the progressive cooperative and entrepreneurial ecosystem in line with Malaysia MADANI's aspirations," he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Bank Rakyat, Datuk Dr Mohammad Hanis Osman, stated that the Management Committee and all employees of Bank Rakyat welcome the appointment of Mohd Irwan as the new Chairman.

"Through his extensive experience, he will be able to lead the implementation of the 2024 Business Plan and long-term Strategic Plan, which will put Bank Rakyat on the right track to achieve sustainable performance while delivering the best customer experience," he said.

Mohd Irwan, who has over 21 years of experience in litigation, corporate and company law, and compliance management, was appointed as a Board Member of Bank Rakyat on July 24, 2020.

He also serves on various committees at the Board of Directors level of Bank Rakyat.
