KOTA KINABALU: The concept of efficiency and speed must be consistently implemented and practiced by the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) in the execution of all policies, programmes, and services.
Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said that after being upgraded to a city status, DBKK has a greater responsibility to maintain the best possible delivery of services.
He said that the expectations of the people of Kota Kinabalu have become increasingly challenging and always require faster and more efficient services, especially in today's time.
"Therefore, I suggest that the concept of efficiency and speed be consistently implemented and practiced in the execution of all policies, programs, and services planned so that the well-being of the people in the Kota Kinabalu area can be maintained," he said.
He said this at the DBKK Appreciation Ceremony in conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of the Silver Jubilee of the Kota Kinabalu City at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Saturday.
Hajiji said that as a progressive local authority, DBKK has implemented various initiatives to improve the efficiency of administration, encourage innovation, and strengthen the delivery of services to the people.
"These initiatives not only improve the quality of life of the people but also strengthen Kota Kinabalu's position as a sustainable and people-friendly city.
"I hope that all these efforts continue to be enhanced to ensure that Kota Kinabalu remains a city that meets the needs of its visitors, especially its citizens," he said.
Hajiji said that in the era of globalisation and the increasing complexity of urban development challenges, Kota Kinabalu must be prepared with a well-thought-out plan to ensure that its infrastructure can accommodate the rapid growth of the population.
"The city is also the main tourist destination and a popular entry point for tourists visiting this state. Therefore, DBKK must always ensure that the aspects of cleanliness, safety, and community well-being remain the top priority," he stressed.
He said that the State Government remains committed to maintaining these achievements and supporting any strategic efforts by DBKK that will be implemented.
He said that among them are the implementation of the Smart City KK initiative with the cooperation of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the strengthening of existing laws, the strengthening of the road and public transportation system, upgrading the basic facilities of Kota Kinabalu City through the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK) project and several other initiatives that benefit the people of Kota Kinabalu.
Hajiji also wants all DBKK staff to continue maintaining their excellent working culture in line with the expectations of stakeholders and the needs of the people of Kota Kinabalu as they are the heroes or "unsung heroes" of Kota Kinabalu.
He said that the efforts of DBKK staff are crucial in realising the government's aspiration to create a prosperous, livable, sustainable, competitive, and enduring Kota Kinabalu City.
