KOTA KINABALU: Kadamaian State Assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick expressed his appreciation for the implementation of major infrastructure projects in the Kadamaian area, namely the upgrading of the Tengkurus-Lahanas Road and the Nahaba-Sayap Road, which are currently underway, as well as the upgrading of the Tambulaung-Podos Road and the permanent bridge in Kg Kaung, which are in the process of acquisition.

“When completed, these facilities will be a game-changer for economic development, entrepreneurship, and the income of the people in Kadamaian,” Ewon who is also the Minister of Entreprenuer Development and Economy (MEDC) said during his Sabah 2024 Budget Debate Speech today.

He further requested for all main roads leading to schools in Kadamaian, including the Gaur-Pinolobuh-Mangkulat Road where three schools are involved (SK Mangkulat, SK Pinolobuh, and SRA Gaur), the Kebidahan-Takulung Road involving SK Lasau, the Kaung-Lobong-Lobong Road covering SK Kaung, the roads in Melangkap leading to SK Melangkap and SK Gensurai, the Kg Dundau Road leading to SK Piasau, the Tambatuon Road to SK Tambatuon, and the Tiong Komburaon Road to SMK Narinang, to be included in the state's priority list for the implementation of projects in the 4th rolling plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12) or the earliest rolling plan in the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13).

“ I also hope that the implementation of the Mandap-Doluoh-Kinasaraban Road upgrading project can be expedited.”

He also suggested that the rural water supply project, which involves constructing a water intake in the Kebayau District, be continued by renaming it the Kebayau Rural Water Supply Project to provide treated water to Kg Kebayau, Kg Bundu Paka, Kg Purak Ogis, Kg Lingkubang, Kg Melangkap Baru, Kg Melangkap Tomis, Kg Melangkap Tiong, Kg Melangkap Kapa, Kg Melangkap Noriou, Kg Narinang, Kg Sogoh and Kg Tambatuon, before extending it to other neighboring villages in the Kadamaian area.

He also extended his request in the Assembly for land surveying through the PANTAS Programme to continue in the Kadamaian area, especially for state-owned land.

“After the completion of the PANTAS surveying with a target of 1000 lots in the Kiau District, which has been implemented since 2019, I request that it be carried out in the following districts: Kg Kaung, Kg Lobong-Lobong, Kg Tambatuon, Kg Gensurai, Kg Podos, Kg Melangkap, Kg Sayap, Kg Lasau, Kg Lahanas, among others.”

In the previous session during the presentation of the Supplementary Budget 2023, he requested that the Youth Arena project be implemented in Kadamaian next year, and the response from the Minister of Finance was very positive. He hoped that it can be successfully implemented in the coming year.

Additional focus should be given to tourism development in Kadamaian, not only in terms of promotion and guidance but also in related basic infrastructure facilities and the holding of major tourism programmes in Kadamaian, he said.

“I propose that the government make the Kadamaian Run event and the Grand Kadamaian Festival as major annual government programmes in Kadamaian, and develop a new hiking route to Mount Kinabalu from Kg Sayap, as well as provide hiking trail facilities to Mount Nungkok from Kg Tambatuon and Kg Lobong-Lobong. This will make Kadamaian a competitive tourist attraction.”
