PENAMPANG: Old age can be a challenging phase of life for many individuals, often accompanied by a decline in mobility. This is particularly true for those who are advanced, as physical limitations can significantly impact their daily activities.

For Evelyn Goh, an 82-year-old former teacher, the necessity of a wheelchair has become a vital aspect of her daily life.

Evelyn, a widow, has struggled with knee issues for many years, and as she has aged, her condition has worsened, ultimately leading to her reliance on a wheelchair for mobility within her home in Kampung Kambau, Penampang.

Despite these challenges, she remains determined to engage in the small chores and activities that bring her joy and a sense of independence.

Recognising her situation, the Penampang Parliament office extended their support by providing her with a wheelchair.

This thoughtful gesture was extended to the recipients by United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), represented by it's Deputy President Datuk Donald Mojuntin, who was accompanied by Bryan Matasing, the Penampang Parliament Liaison Officer.

Their compassion and assistance will make a meaningful difference in Evelyn's life, enabling her to maintain a degree of independence.

For Patrick Wong, 72, a former storekeeper in a company, mobility has become a significant challenge due to his ongoing health issues.

His wife, Navili Ginilo, 71, explains that even the slightest movement can leave him feeling faint and breathless. Over the past year, Patrick has been grappling with an undiagnosed illness that has severely impacted his quality of life.

To alleviate his discomfort, he requires assistance, and the addition of a hospital bed or a wheelchair would greatly enhance his ability to manage daily activities.

Donald and his entourage visited Patrick at his Kampung Kapayan home to offer support and encouragement. Their visit aimed to uplift his spirits and give him hope during this difficult time. The compassion shown by this team serves as a reminder of the importance of community and support for individuals facing health challenges.
