KOTA KINABALU: Koperasi Baja Harapan Sabah Berhad celebrated a significant milestone with the soft launch of its e-commerce initiative, part of the Ejen Harapan Programme.

The event was graced by the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick, along with stakeholders, shareholders, and representatives from the Ministry. This launch highlights the cooperative’s innovative approach to agriculture and its commitment to community empowerment.

During the event, Koperasi Baja Harapan Sabah Berhad highlighted its impressive journey from a local cooperative to a key player supporting both small and large-scale farmers.

To date, the cooperative has achieved a remarkable milestone by assisting more than 30,000 small estate owners across 30,000 acres of land in Sabah through its fertilizers and consultancy services.

Building on this success, the cooperative is committed to expanding its services beyond Sabah, solidifying its reputation as a trusted provider of essential agricultural resources, including fertilizers, consulting services, and training.

Steve Lee, Chairman of Koperasi Baja Harapan Sabah Berhad, shared the cooperative’s aspirations, saying, “Our goal is to not only improve food security but also create income opportunities for every household in Sabah. The Ejen Harapan Programme is a step toward making agriculture a profitable and sustainable venture for all and creating awareness of the often-overlooked potential profitability in the agricultural sector.”

In an official Facebook post, Datuk Ewon Benedick acknowledged the cooperative’s efforts to address the pressing issue of fertilizer prices in Sabah.

He commended the cooperative for producing high-quality, locally-made fertilisers at competitive prices and emphasised the importance of collaboration between Koperasi Baja Harapan Sabah Berhad and other cooperatives, particularly those in the plantation and agriculture sectors.

The Ejen Harapan Programme is a transformative initiative aimed at tackling two pressing issues in the agricultural sector.

This includes tackling the increase in food prices by promoting the use of high-quality, locally manufactured fertilisers that enable farmers to achieve higher crop yields.

Increased production not only helps stabilise and lower food prices but also strengthens the local supply chain.

Surplus crops can be sold in the open market, providing economic benefits for households and ensuring food security for the broader community.

This also empowers communities with sustainable income, where participants in the programme, known as Agent Harapan, can earn commissions not only from fertiliser sales but also from referral fees when they bring in new agents.

This dual-income opportunity provides a reliable and sustainable source of income while encouraging active participation in agricultural growth and development.

Currently launched in Sabah, the Ejen Harapan Programme is set to expand across Malaysia, inviting cooperatives, associations, and individuals to join the initiative.

A future awaits where affordable fertilisers, empowered communities, and sustainable agriculture can drive Malaysia’s progress.
