KOTA KINABALU: The Creative Event Design - Event Design Certificate (EDC) Level 3 Programme has received funding from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Environment (KePKAS).
Recently held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), the programme aimed to enhance the professionalism and creativity of Sabah's Business Events (BE) industry. It seeks to equip local event professionals with world-class skills in event design and strategy.
This initiative follows a meeting between Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew and the Chief Executive Officer of SICC, Datuk Dr Rosmawati Lasuki, during which they discussed programmes that support Sabah's strategy to establish itself as a premier business events destination.
Both agreed that a thriving business events industry positively impacts Sabah's economy, benefiting various sectors, including hospitality, transportation, and retail.
They expressed their belief in the importance of capacity building and called for more programmes of this nature to enhance participants' knowledge. The focus will be on developing advanced event design skills, overcoming challenges, leading teams through strategic event planning tools, prototyping event narratives, and applying the Event Canvas Methodology to demonstrate the value of events.
"The Minister has given her full commitment to this program to ensure sustainable tourism and economic growth, strengthening Sabah’s position as a premier destination for innovative and culturally rich business events.
"By investing in talent development, the programme ensures that Sabah remains competitive in attracting international and domestic events, thereby driving long-term benefits for the state’s tourism and event sectors," a statement issued on the matter stated.
According to the statement, the Ministry aimed to empower local event professionals with cutting-edge skills in creative event design, ensuring they could compete on an international scale as certified event designer (CED).
"The EDC programme provided participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to design impactful events, fostering innovation and creativity within the industry,” the statement further read.
It was facilitated by Ruud Janssen, one of the creators of the Event Canvas Methodology.
