PETALING JAYA: Energizer Malaysia introduces the world’s first and only coin lithium battery featuring three levels of child protection technology, enhancing safety in homes across Malaysia.

Ensuring a safe environment for children is paramount, yet certain dangers can be well-hidden in everyday spaces, such as small batteries found in household items. But how much harm can something as tiny as a battery truly cause?

According to a case report from Malaysia, severe injuries can arise from delayed diagnosis, as most emergency department patients who have ingested a battery exhibit no symptoms or only vague, non-specific signs.

In light of this risk, Energizer Malaysia is committed to coin lithium safety with the launch of its "Know the Risks, Protect Your Kids" campaign, unveiling its latest coin-cell lithium batteries equipped with the 3-in-1 Child Shield™ safety system for added protection in Malaysian homes.

"Energizer is the first brand worldwide to introduce child-resistant packaging for its coin-cell lithium batteries, featuring a triple-layer safety system designed to provide enhanced protection against everyday risks."

"Our innovation includes the world’s first colour alert technology, which helps caregivers identify potential ingestion and seek urgent medical attention. As an industry leader, Energizer is dedicated to advocating for stronger safety standards in battery design."

"By continually enhancing safety features in our products, we aim to lead discussions on preventing household accidents and protecting children," said Diane Lee, Business Director for Malaysia and Singapore at Energizer Holdings Inc.

During the launch, Dr Wong Yee Ming, a Consultant Paediatrician from Columbia Asia Hospital Bukit Jalil, alongside real-life parents Diyana Hashim, Pauline Tan, and Chelsea Ng, participated in a panel discussion addressing the challenges of preventing accidental ingestion, what to do in medical emergencies involving ingestion, and practical solutions for creating safer home environments.

Dr Wong highlighted, "Many household hazards are concealed in plain sight, making it essential to raise awareness of potential risks for children."

"Small objects, such as coin lithium batteries, can cause serious harm if swallowed. Delayed diagnosis can lead to severe injuries, which is why immediate medical attention is critical. Preventing such incidents should be a priority; simple measures like storing hazardous items out of reach and opting for child-safe products can make a considerable difference."

The 3-in-1 Child Shield™ safety system from Energizer is available across its 2032, 2025, and 2016 Ultimate Lithium Coin Battery range, designed for those seeking to safeguard their homes.

This innovative safety system helps mitigate the risks associated with coin lithium batteries for children by incorporating three key features:

Child-Resistant Packaging: Energizer was the first brand to introduce child-resistant packaging, providing security to prevent children from accessing the batteries.

Non-Toxic Bitter Coating: Energizer's coin lithium batteries feature a non-toxic bitter coating that discourages ingestion.

New Colour Alert Technology: A world-first innovation that introduces visible safety. This technology activates upon contact with saliva, turning the mouth blue within seconds to alert caregivers, enabling them to seek medical attention promptly if necessary.

As part of its ongoing commitment to promoting child safety, Energizer Malaysia will showcase its latest innovations at Malaysia's largest baby expo, the TCE Baby Expo, held at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre (MVEC) in Kuala Lumpur from 17 to 20 April 2025, and at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from 26 to 28 September 2025. Special promotions will be available during these events.
