ESSCOM’s logo changed colour

23 September 2024

KOTA KINABALU: The Commander of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) Deputy Commissioner Datuk Victor Sanjos revealed the new colours for its logo and jurisdiction map as part of its second phase of rebranding.

The new logo is coloured blue and white, replacing the former which was maroon.

During the ESSCOM monthly assembly held at the Marine Police Base Hall in Lahad Datu on Monday, the color of the ESS Zone map was updated as part of a rebranding initiative aimed at restoring public confidence in the security of Sabah's east coast.

Victor emphasised that these changes are integral to ensuring the safety of the region, stating, "ESSCOM will stand firmly to prevent any intrusions or kidnappings within its area of command. Our mission is to ensure that EssZone is a safe place for people to prosper."

ESSCOM, an integrated defense arrangement involving multiple agencies, was established in 2013 following an incursion by gunmen linked to the self-proclaimed Sulu Sultanate in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu.

Victor highlighted the importance of the rebranding effort, noting that it aims to restore public confidence in security and facilitate socio-economic development along Sabah's east coast.

He also mentioned a positive trend in tourism, indicating that since the curfew was replaced with a Movement Control Order (MCO) in October 2023, more tourists have been visiting the area.

He remarked that the term "MCO" is perceived as less alarming to foreigners compared to "curfew."

Additionally, ESSCOM's Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Dr. Jamaluddin Mohd Ali, noted that the socio-economic program has significantly impacted the lives of residents in the EssZone area.

"Through this programme, participants can enhance their income by acquiring various skills, including food preparation from seafood and pastry making," he explained.

He added that while there has been an increase in applications for the programme, eligibility will be assessed to ensure that participants meet the necessary criteria. This discussion took place during a meeting between ESSCOM and the Armed Forces in Lahad Datu.
