TONGOD: There is a need for the establishment of a Fire and Rescue Services Station in this area.

Mohina Sidom, the UPKO Malaysia Chief and UPKO Kinabatangan Divisional Chief, has expressed her concern about the lack of this necessity, in Tongod.

She said the recent fire was an example where the lack of this facility resulted in such a disaster.

"This is the third major fire in Kg. Penangah. One was in 2008, another in 2019 and now this year," she stressed.

She added that other natural disasters caused by strong wind among others also needed their services.

She mentioned that at least two houses were affected by strong wind in Kampung Minusu, and she would be visiting today.

On another note, she emphasized the necessity for relevant authorities to consider providing government-assisted housing for those in urgent need of shelter.

"There are people still living in tents after they lost their homes as they may not be able to afford to build new houses," she shared.

Today she sent seven cooking gas tank to victims of the recent fire at Kg. Penangah.

During the fire, 56 houses were razed to the ground on September 15, leaving 79 families and a total of 303 individuals displaced. The fire destroyed the permanent structures.

The victims were evacuated to the Kg. Penangah Community Hall, which has been designated as a Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS).
