KOTA KINABALU: Former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Badawi has passed away at the age of 85 at the National Heart Institute at 7.10 pm on Monday, April 14.
He is remembered for his significant contributions to the nation during his tenure from 2003 to 2009.
Affectionately known as Pak Lah, Abdullah became Prime Minister in 2003, taking over from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who stepped down following 22 years in office.
Abdullah earned the esteemed title of Malaysia’s "Father of Human Capital Development" for introducing the National Human Capital Policy, which aimed to enhance the skills and capabilities of the Malaysian workforce and promote sustainable economic growth.
He had faced personal health challenges in recent years where his condition declined due to dementia, which significantly affected his memory, including his ability to recognise family members and close friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Abdullah, as well as two children, Nori and Kamaluddin, from his first marriage to Endon Mahmood, who passed away from breast cancer in 2005. Abdullah also had two stepchildren, Nadiah Kimie and Nadene Kimie, from Jeanne’s previous marriage.
