KUALA LUMPUR: Gleneagles Hospital Penang has unveiled the new SOMATOM Pro.Pulse Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. This advanced technology facilitates faster and more accurate diagnostics, enabling better treatment decisions and improved outcomes, all while ensuring a more comfortable experience for patients across the region.
"The introduction of this state-of-the-art equipment will enable more patients to receive timely and precise diagnoses, alongside a smoother and more efficient scanning process. This achievement stands as a testament to the power of public-private collaboration, integrating technology, investment, and medical expertise to foster a healthier future for all," remarked Daniel Gooi, Penang State EXCO for Youth, Sports and Health.
The SOMATOM Pro.Pulse, developed by Siemens Healthineers, is specifically engineered to make CT scans quicker and more comfortable, particularly for patients with irregular heart rates or those who struggle to remain still during examinations. With its AI-powered myExam companion, the system tailors each scan according to individual factors such as heart rate and breathing, ensuring a seamless experience—especially for children and the elderly—reducing the time spent in the CT room while prioritising comfort.
"At Gleneagles Hospital Penang, we are committed to utilising the latest technology to enhance patient care. The acquisition of the SOMATOM Pro.Pulse CT scanner underscores our dedication to providing the highest standard of care while minimising stress and discomfort for our patients. We take pride in being the first in Southeast Asia to implement this system, which will improve access to advanced CT scans for Penang residents and promote medical tourism," stated Ng Bong Seng, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Hospital Penang.
In addition to enhancing patient comfort, the SOMATOM Pro.Pulse is 20% more energy-efficient, equipped with an advanced air-cooling system that reduces energy consumption and optimises operational efficiency. This aligns with Gleneagles Hospital Penang's commitment to sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices, allowing the facility to focus on enhancing patient care.
"At Siemens Healthineers, our goal is to ensure that advanced technologies like dual-source CT are more accessible, promoting greater diagnostic confidence and efficient workflows. The SOMATOM Pro.Pulse is designed to balance clinical performance with patient comfort, in line with Gleneagles Hospital Penang's pledge to enhance patient care," commented Siow Ai Li, Managing Director, Siemens Healthineers Malaysia and Singapore.
