Goh: Sabah Government’s term ends next October, priorities political stability and economic development first

KOTA KINABALU: Political organisations and the public should respect the statutory term of the Sabah State Government, led by Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, which only ends in October next year.

Tan Sri T.C. Goh, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS), has called on all parties to resolve any issues or disputes through appropriate and legal channels, ensuring impartiality.

“All parties should adopt an objective and rational perspective and refrain from acting as self-appointed ‘judges,’” he said.

Goh, who is also the President of the Federation of Sabah and Labuan Hokkien Associations (FSLHA), issued this statement today in response to recent developments in Sabah.

He declined to comment on certain cases potentially involving enforcement actions or legal proceedings, stressing that such matters should be handled transparently and fairly by the relevant authorities according to established procedures.

However, he reiterated that maintaining political stability to promote economic development across various sectors is the greatest aspiration of the people and should remain a priority for Sabah’s progress and prosperity.

He pointed out that a stable state environment and a united populace are key to ensuring that Sabahans can continue to live and work in peace while attracting foreign investments.

He urged all political parties and leaders in Sabah to exercise self-restraint and prioritize the broader public interest.

"Above all, do not overly politicize every issue," he stressed.

On the potential dissolution of the State Assembly to hold the 17th state election, Goh opined that, according to the state constitution, the current government’s term only expires in October next year.

“From the perspective of the people and development, there is still ample time for political parties and leaders to focus on serving the people and advancing Sabah’s progress,” he noted.

He reiterated that the primary demand of the people is political stability and steady economic growth.

“Both the ruling and opposition parties must respect this prevailing public sentiment.

"As the saying goes, ‘He who wins the people’s hearts wins the world.’ I urge all political parties in Sabah to strive to meet these fundamental expectations of the people, as this is the wisest course of action,” he concluded.
