KOTA KINABALU: The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) PH-Plus government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing various issues faced by the people, including water supply, electricity, infrastructure, and economic development.

This commitment remains steadfast despite numerous accusations from the opposition.

Mohd. Bahrin Abd Karim, the Head of the Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Kota Kinabalu branch, responded to claims made by Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin, the Chief of UMNO Sabah.

He described these allegations—that the state government has failed to resolve basic issues affecting the population—as inaccurate and politically motivated.

Bahrin acknowledged the challenges surrounding clean water supply in Sabah and outlined both short- and long-term proactive measures being implemented to tackle these issues.

He highlighted various initiatives, including the maintenance and upgrading of existing water treatment plants, as well as the construction of new facilities, all of which are being actively pursued with substantial funding aimed at expediting solutions.

"It is important to remember that the issues related to basic amenities, such as water supply, currently faced by the people of Sabah are problems inherited from previous administrations, including the Warisan era. "

"The past government failed to resolve these issues, which have persisted into the GRS-PH Plus era. However, under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, the state government is striving to address these challenges," he stated.

Bahrin also addressed the issue of electricity supply interruptions, noting that power outages in Sabah are not a new concern.

He explained that the state government is taking steps to strengthen the energy system, which includes developing new generation projects and transitioning to green energy as a long-term solution.

Over the past three years, GRS has initiated various infrastructure projects, including road construction and the Pan Borneo project, which is currently in a critical phase of execution.

Bahrin emphasised the ongoing upgrading of countryside and rural roads to ensure the well-being of the people.

He further remarked that Sabah has emerged as one of the top investment destinations in Malaysia, with efforts to attract both foreign and domestic investments expected to create more job opportunities for the local population.

Additionally, training and entrepreneurship programmes are being expanded to help residents enhance their skills and competitiveness.

Bahrin concluded by stating that the GRS government is actively addressing any existing shortcomings, rather than allowing them to be used as political leverage by opposition parties.

"The people of Sabah are wise enough to distinguish between reality and political rhetoric. The state government will continue to strive for the progress of Sabah and will not make empty promises," he asserted.
