GRS is strong and focused

4 October 2024

KOTA KINABALU: Unity within Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) remains strong, with its chairman, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, consistently engaging with leaders of the component parties.

GRS Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai emphasised that these meetings not only address state matters but also focus on internal party issues, showcasing the strong cohesion within the coalition.

In response to a viral report speculating that Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) was seeking collaboration with STAR and the opposition party Warisan for the upcoming state election, Joniston dismissed these claims as unfounded rumors intended to undermine GRS's unity.

"What has been reported is nothing more than mere speculation propagated by irresponsible parties with the malicious intent to disrupt the strong unity within GRS," he stated.

He highlighted that both Datuk Seri Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, president of STAR, and Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, acting president of PBS, have reaffirmed their parties' commitment to GRS. Their statements should effectively dispel any rumours and speculations aimed at creating discord within the coalition.

During the recent PBS-STAR Joint Leadership Council (JLC) meeting, both parties reiterated the importance of aligning their efforts to enhance their influence and GRS's presence across Sabah in anticipation of the state elections.

Joniston, who also serves as PBS Information Chief and a member of the PBS-STAR JLC, noted that PBS, as the second-largest component member of GRS, is committed to ensuring a decisive victory for the coalition in the forthcoming elections.

He urged the public to remain vigilant against political propaganda, asserting that those envious of GRS's growing strength will continue to disseminate falsehoods and baseless claims against the GRS-PH Plus government.
