KOTA KINABALU: The Head of State of Sabah, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr) Musa Aman, extends his best wishes to all Muslims as they observe the fasting month of Ramadan.
Fasting commences on Sunday, as announced by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal in a broadcast on RTM last night.
According to Tun Musa, fasting is the third pillar of Islam and imparts profound lessons for Muslims. He underscored that one of the significant teachings behind fasting is the development of empathy for those who are less fortunate.
In this light, Tun Musa urged all Muslims to wholeheartedly embrace the teachings of Islam, which prioritise compassion and the practice of helping those in need.
“The fasting observed during Ramadan serves as a platform for Muslims to reflect on the plight and well-being of the poor,” stated the Head of State in a statement issued by the Office of the Palace Public Relations Secretary.
Meanwhile, a thanksgiving and prayer ceremony was held at the State Palace last night to commemorate the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan. Tun Musa attended the ceremony, where he performed the Maghrib and Isyak prayers in congregation, in addition to reciting Surah Yasin and participating in tahlil prayers alongside approximately 120 guests. The event was led by the Chief Imam of the State Mosque, Haji Suaidi Kuanting.
Also present at the ceremony were Sabah's Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmy Yahya; Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Datuk Dr Mohd Ariffin Mohd Arif; State Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Safar Untong; and several Assistant Ministers.
The Mufti of the Sabah State Government, Sohibus Samahah Datuk Bongsu Aziz Jaafar, presented the findings of the moon-sighting committee, which conducted observations at the Al-Biruni Observatory in Tanjung Dumpil, Putatan, to His Excellency Tun.
