PENAMPANG: The Holly Nativity Parish Terawi Tug of War Team (HNPT Penampang) has successfully won the championship in the traditional sports event at the Kaamatan Archdiocese Grand Finals in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on April 26.


The event involved teams from parishes across Sabah, including Labuan, and saw them competing against a strong contender, the St. Michael’s Parish team from Penampang, which secured second place.


Meanwhile, the third place was claimed by the St. Thomas Kepayan Parish team, after they defeated the St. Augustine Kinarut Parish team.

According to the team manager, Mark Silak Sinto, he was pleased with the achievement, which was the result of close teamwork and brotherly friendship within the team, paving the way for success.


He also expressed gratitude to the sponsors and supporters, particularly Dennison R. Endang, who generously supplied the team’s jersey gear and was very supportive of the team.


The traditional Kaamatan sports event at the Archdiocese Grand Finals took place at St. Michael’s Field in Penampang. The programme included various activities such as Arm Wrestling, Coconut Husking, Chicken Catching, Slingshots, Sack Races, and many other traditional sports. The event was officiated by Bishop Datuk John Lee.
