KOTA KINABALU: The recent flooding in the region has seen a significant decrease in the number of temporary evacuation centres still in operation, with the exception of Lahad Datu, Pitas and Beaufort. This is in comparison to the report at 5.04pm on January 31.

As of 10.24pm on February 1, the situation report by Infobencana indicates that two evacuation centres in Lahad Datu continue to shelter a total of 520 individuals from 140 families.

In comparison to numbers reported yesterday, Lahad Datu has seen a notable increase in the number of displaced individuals, from 432 victims from 115 families housed in three temporary evacuation centres.

This development underscores the ongoing flood-related crisis and the need for continued support and assistance in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, other locations have also seen an increase in the number of people requiring shelter. In Pitas, there are now 742 victims from 274 families housed in four temporary evacuation centres. Yesterday, 305 individuals from 117 families were sheltered in three temporary centres.

In Beaufort, a lone evacuation centre continues to shelter 110 victims from 32 families, a slight increase from 108 victims from 31 families yesterday.

Paitan, which had six centres operational yesterday, has seen a considerable decrease in the number of evacuees.

As of the current report, a single centre in Paitan is sheltering 36 individuals from 20 families, a significant drop from 239 evacuees from 87 families reported the previous day.

These numbers underscore the ongoing efforts to mitigate the flood's impact and provide necessary assistance to those affected.
