JALAN SIBUGA CLUSTER NOW HAS 17 POSITIVE CASES

SANDAKAN: The number of positive cases detected in the Jalan Sibuga Cluster involving the Sri Harapan Old Folks' Home here has now increased to 17.


State Minister of Community Development and People's Welfare Ir Shahelmy Yahya said, of the total, 10 are elderly and the rest are employees of the welfare home.


"Another person who had been confirmed positive for the virus os a family member of staff at the care centre.


"So far, all of the 71 residents and staff have undergone the Covid-19 screening test and a total of 55 of them are still waiting for their results," he said in a statement today.



According to Shahelmy, the elderly home had been sanitised and strict control measures have also been implemented with the help of the Malaysian Volunteer Department (RELA) members.


"Individuals with symptoms have been isolated while waiting for their screening results and body temperatures of all residents are also taken every six hours.


"To overcome the shortage of staff, volunteer workers from the Ministry of Health (MoH) have been appointed," he revealed.


Earlier, Health Director-General Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah informed that the active cluster is detected in Sandakan involving five positive cases in the beginning.
