Job placements of 7,448 commendable

13 October 2024

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has successfully recorded a total of 7,448 job placements as of September 27, 2024, a figure that is truly commendable, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor.

He stated that these job placements are the result of the government's efforts through the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) and various agencies to enhance the employability of the people of Sabah.

He noted that there are still many challenges to overcome, including improving the quality of training and ensuring that the skills provided align with industry needs.

“I urge for strategic collaboration to continue between the government, educational institutions, and the private sector to expand job opportunities and provide more relevant training for the people of this state,” he said during the launch of the Mega Madani Myfuturejobs Career Carnival organized by PERKESO in Sabah at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Saturday.

He emphasised the need for cooperation from all parties, including government and private agencies, to work together in reducing unemployment and ensuring that every individual has equal job opportunities that match their skills and talents.

He stated that these efforts are crucial for strengthening the national economy, improving the living standards of the people, reducing poverty, and ensuring social welfare is secured.

According to him, the Sabah Jobs Portal (SJP) managed by the Department of Human Resource Development (JPSM) and the MYFutureJobs (MFJ) portal introduced by PERKESO will be integrated to ensure that it can provide more efficient job search services for the people of Sabah.

“I hope that the MYFutureJobs system and the Sabah Job Portal can be realised as soon as possible for the benefit of the people of Sabah. This integration will facilitate job seekers in obtaining the latest information and help employers find suitable talent.

“With this platform, it is hoped that the unemployment rate can be reduced and the employability of the people of Sabah can be improved,” he said.

Hajiji mentioned that the state government is now on the right track through the Human Capital Development Blueprint for Sabah (2021-2035) to ensure that the knowledge, skills, and expertise of youth, as well as human capital, remain relevant while serving as a guideline for holistic human capital development programmes in the state.

He added that the state government will continue to implement employability and skills training programs, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), that are relevant to current industry needs and improve facilities and training aids in training institutes under state and federal government agencies.

He noted that the implementation of various initiatives under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan is beginning to show positive results, with economic growth increasing and people's welfare improving.

“As a strategic step forward, the state government fully supports the proposal to establish the first international standard PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo to be implemented promptly,” he said.

Hajiji also expressed the desire for the PERKESO Career Carnival to be expanded to other cities and small towns, as it provides significant benefits to the people of the state.

“The organisation of such carnivals can also create an efficient labour market ecosystem and provide the best opportunities for job seekers in Sabah,” he emphasised.
