KUALA LUMPUR: A joint Hari Raya and Easter celebration held at Kampung Parad epitomises unity and mutual respect.
Kiulu Assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, who officiated the event, remarked that the spirit of togetherness demonstrated by the villagers is an exemplary model for other communities to follow.
“We should consider organising a community or harmony festival to celebrate the religious, cultural, and traditional diversity of our village folk in a single, joyful event,” he said.
He added that such a festival could become an annual tradition within the constituency.
“Our people live peacefully together, regardless of their faiths, and this unity can also attract tourists seeking authentic cultural experiences,” said Joniston, who is also the Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment.
He noted that modern tourists desire more than just scenic views; they want to immerse themselves in local culture and understand how communities live and interact.
“In Kiulu, visitors can enjoy nature while witnessing how villagers support one another and respect each other’s beliefs,” he explained. “Demonstrating unity through everyday actions is far more meaningful than words.”
Joniston also emphasised the importance of the kampung environment in nurturing a younger generation imbued with empathy and respect for others.
“Our community shows that rejecting extremism and living in peace is entirely possible. This is a message we can proudly share with the world.”
“Kiulu is already recognised as a rural destination that offers not only natural beauty but also exemplifies harmonious living,” he added.
“Promoting this way of life can further strengthen rural tourism.”
