KOTA KINABALU: Dapur Kita-Kita, the city’s first soup kitchen, has been launched to address food insecurity among urban workers and underserved communities in Kota Kinabalu.
Spearheaded by Jetsin Sdn Bhd Managing Director Datuk Koh Chung Jade, the initiative is a collaboration with Sabah Chefs Association President Adrian Chong, Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) F&B Operations Director Mohd Firdaous Mohd Izhar, private companies and NGOs.
The soup kitchen provides nutritious meals for urban workers struggling to make ends meet due to remittances sent home, with daily meal distributions, except on Sundays and public holidays, from 11.30am to 1.30pm at Bandaran Berjaya.
Operating with volunteers and chefs mobilised by SICC and the Sabah Chefs Association, Dapur Kita-Kita currently self-funds through Jetsin’s CSR funds but aims to attract NGOs and sponsor support for sustainability.
According to the Daily Express, the founders envision it as a central kitchen for NGOs across Sabah, offering Muslim-friendly meals and inclusive volunteering opportunities, while addressing the persistent issue of hunger in the community.
