KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) will soon have a new telecommunication infrastructure to improve its connectivity and attract more investments, said State Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Phoong Jin Zhe.

He said the project was announced by Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching during her working visit to Sabah today, following his request to address the issue of poor connectivity in KKIP.

"I've received complaints from both foreign and domestic investors in KKIP, such as SK Nexilis and SBH Kibing Solar, who have invested billions of ringgit in the industrial park. They requested to improve the infrastructure to upgrade the connectivity to ensure their operations would run smoothly," he said in a statement.

He expressed his gratitude to Teo and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for taking swift action to ensure that Sabah has strong connectivity to compete in the global market.

He said connectivity is very crucial to attract investment as it is a global trend to move towards digitalisation and artificial intelligence.

"This would always be our priority, ensuring that infrastructure is complete and sufficient for our industry players and foreign investors.

“My ministry will continue to work closely with related authorities to ensure that the installation will be completed within this year," he said.
