Lions Clubs' Fight Against Drug Abuse Lauded

KOTA KINABALU: The collective efforts of the 15 Lions Clubs in Sabah and Labuan to combat drug abuse among youth deserve strong support to ensure the success of their drug awareness campaign.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Seri Christina Liew, emphasised this during a courtesy call from a delegation led by Organising Chairperson Alyssa Lim, who briefed the minister about the Lions Clubs International drug awareness movie screening initiative.
Liew has been invited to officiate the premiere screening of “No More Drugs,” a locally produced film aimed at educating and empowering our youth about the dangers of drug abuse.
Lim, the Past President of the Lions Club of KK Downtown, announced that this significant event will take place on 21 March at 8 p.m. at the Glory Christian Centre, with an expected attendance of 2,000 young people from across Sabah.
During the briefing, Lim explained that this screening marks the launch of Phase One of the Lions Clubs' Drug Awareness Campaign, which will extend over six days across Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Tawau, featuring 10 to 12 free screenings.
"We estimate that this phase will reach between 6,000 and 7,000 youth. Our objectives are to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its destructive effects on individuals, families, and society, as well as to foster informed discussions around drug prevention and healthy lifestyle choices among youth, parents, and educators," Lim added.
In calling for public support, Liew stressed that promoting a drug-free society is vital for the well-being of both tourism and the community.
"A safer, healthier Sabah will not only benefit our youth but also enhance Sabah’s reputation as a desirable, family-friendly travel destination. By fostering a positive environment, we can reinforce our state's commitment to community wellness, safety, and sustainable tourism growth," she stated, while assuring the organisers of her ministry's support for a drug-free Sabah.
Also present were Deputy Organising Chairman Nelson Wong (President, Lions Club of KK Lintas), Program Coordinator Kennedy John (Charter President, Lions Club of Kenngau Downtown), Project Secretary 2 Christina Hwong (Lions Club of KK Downtown), Project Treasurer Peter Liau (Past President, Lions Club of KK Asia City), Marketing Director Mary Josephine Pang (Past President, Lions Club of KK Capital), Event Director Galen Low (President, Lions Club of KK Mandarin), and Harry Vun (President, Lions Club of KK Vintage).
