Malaysia Airlines Group Enforces New Power Bank Regulations from 1 April

19 March 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and MASwings will implement new regulations on the carriage of power banks aboard their flights, effective from 1 April 2025.
The airlines announced the updated regulations on 17 March, stating that the revised guidelines aim to enhance flight safety.
Under the new rules, passengers must keep power banks with them at all times and are not permitted to store them in overhead compartments. Instead, power banks may be placed in carry-on bags under the seat or in the seat pocket in front of them.
Charging power banks during flights is strictly prohibited, and passengers are not allowed to use them during taxiing, take-off, or whenever the seatbelt sign is illuminated.
Each passenger is allowed to carry a maximum of two power banks with a capacity ranging from 100Wh to 160Wh. The carriage of power banks and spare lithium-ion batteries in checked baggage remains strictly prohibited due to safety concerns.
The Malaysia Airlines Group has emphasised that these regulations are in place to ensure the safety of both passengers and crew. Travellers are encouraged to check the capacity of their power banks before flying and adhere to the updated guidelines to avoid any inconvenience.
