KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Medical Association has slammed the government for organising the 100-day Malaysian Family Aspiration programme which has attracted a lot of crowds.
Its president Dr Koh Kar Chai said that based on the numbers of crowd, it would seem that “increasing Covid-19 numbers would be one of the goals for the (Prime Minister) Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s administration’s next 100 days”.
"Is pushing up the number of Covid-19 cases part of the KPI for the next 100 days?
"It seems that garnering publicity is on overdrive now though we are still staring at both the delta and Omicron variants in this country.
"Even as we are in the midst of encouraging the booster shots in a bid to stave off the pandemic, there are quarters in responsible government positions who seem to want the pandemic to stay," he said in a statement today.
The event which will be held for four days and has started yesterday in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre was to commemorate the Ismail Sabri and his Cabinet on their first 100 days in office.
Yesterday, viral images of large crowds with no social distancing observed had been widely circulated on social media.
"Telling the public that processions whether for religious purposes or to protest at rising food prices is not allowed out of safety concerns due to the pandemic.
"Yet allow for the government to run events is saying that the virus is selective in who it wants to infect," said Koh.
