Malaysian Muslims to Begin Fasting on Sunday

KUALA LUMPUR: Muslims in Malaysia will begin fasting for Ramadan on Sunday, 2 March, as announced by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.
According to Syed Danial, the date was determined by the decree of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, with the consent of Their Royal Highnesses, the Rulers of Malaysia.
The announcement was broadcast live on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) this evening.
On 20th February, the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal issued a statement confirming that the sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon would take place today, 28th February, corresponding to 29th Sha’ban 1446H, to determine the beginning of the fasting month for Malaysian Muslims.
The crescent moon sighting was conducted at 29 designated locations nationwide, including Baitul Hilal at Sultan Ismail Building in Pontian, Johor, and the Al-Khawarizmi Astronomy Complex in Kampung Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara, Melaka - source BERNAMA.
