Café Talk

6 January 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian International Food and Beverage Trade Fair (MIFB) announced its partnership with the Malaysia Specialty Coffee Association (MSCA) to host the Malaysia National Coffee Championship (MNCC) from 2025 to 2027.

This collaboration underscores MIFB's commitment to nurturing the nation’s café culture while launching the Malaysia Café Expo—a dedicated platform for showcasing innovations in coffee and tea.

The theme for MIFB 2025, "Future-Ready F&B: Serving the Evolution of Trends," will emphasise specialty coffee, Ready-To-Eat (RTE) and Ready-To-Cook (RTC) products, and the role of digital advancements in the food and beverage sector.

Scheduled to take place from July 30 to August 1, 2025, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the event will feature a diverse array of local and international exhibitors, alongside the semi-finals and finals of the MNCC. This esteemed competition celebrates the extraordinary talent within Malaysia's specialty coffee community, shining a spotlight on baristas, brewers, and coffee tasters.

Kelvin Ngow, President of MSCA, commented, "Our café culture has seen a remarkable evolution, fueled by a new wave of coffee enthusiasts. Through the MNCC and our partnership with MIFB, we aspire to elevate local talent and position Malaysia as a prominent player on the global coffee stage."

The growth of the café sector reflects Malaysia's unique ability to merge global trends with local flavors. Renowned brands such as Boncafe and Da Di Coffee exemplify this fusion, marrying specialty coffee with the rich heritage of traditional kopi culture. The Malaysia Café Expo, co-located with MIFB 2025 and MyFoodTech 2025, aims to further amplify these initiatives, offering a prime platform for exhibitors in the coffee, tea, and related industries.

Paul Lee, Chief Executive of Markets at Constellar, added, "Our partnership with MSCA reinforces MIFB's role as a connector among businesses, communities, and cultures. Hosting the MNCC emphasizes our commitment to fostering innovation and resilience within the F&B sector, while championing Malaysia’s vibrant café scene."

With MIFB 2025, Malaysia positions itself as a catalyst for collaboration, innovation, and growth across the food and beverage and café industries, further solidifying the nation’s leadership within the regional food and beverage landscape.
