Misleading video showing Sabah's road condition

KOTA KINABALU: A video recently circulating on social media, captioned “Sabah Mundur Jaya,” has been revealed as misleading and entirely false. The footage, which depicts poor road conditions and flooding, was neither filmed in Sabah nor anywhere else in Malaysia.

David Ong, Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), stated that the video appears to be part of a deliberate campaign to mislead the public and damage the reputation of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government.

In a statement on Saturday, Ong explained that a closer examination of the video confirms that several elements do not correspond with Sabah’s actual infrastructure or road conditions.

“The green taxis and license plates shown do not exist in Malaysia, indicating that the video originates from another country. Furthermore, the public buses featured bear no resemblance to Sabah’s transport system, with signage and designs not found anywhere in the state.”

He added, “The structures and billboards visible in the background do not match any known locations in Sabah. The traffic conditions, local commuters, vehicles, cyclists, and overall urban landscape are inconsistent with what we see in Sabah.”

Ong stressed that the intentional circulation of this misleading content raises serious concerns about ulterior motives. He believes this is a coordinated effort by opposition forces to create confusion among the people of Sabah and undermine public confidence in the GRS government.

The LDP strongly condemned the dissemination of fabricated content aimed at misrepresenting Sabah’s progress. Ong criticised such deceptive tactics, describing them as unethical and an insult to the intelligence of Sabahans. “The spread of misinformation for political gain is irresponsible and damaging. The people of Sabah deserve leaders who focus on real issues and genuine solutions, not misinformation campaigns designed to sow discord,” he added.

He urged the public to verify information before sharing it and to remain vigilant against attempts to create division through fake news. Despite these politically motivated distractions, Ong reaffirmed that the GRS-led government remains committed to infrastructure development and improving the livelihoods of Sabahans.

“Road maintenance and development projects are ongoing, and significant investments are being made to enhance connectivity across the state,” he noted. “The opposition may resort to spreading falsehoods, but it will not change the reality of the tangible progress made under GRS leadership. No amount of misleading propaganda can erase the fact that our government continues to deliver real improvements for the people of Sabah.”

Ong called on social media platforms and relevant authorities to take immediate action against the spread of misleading content and to hold those responsible accountable. He emphasised that Sabah deserves a political environment built on truth, integrity, and genuine progress, rather than deception and baseless propaganda.
