Mobile Home Caravan boost rural tourism

26 October 2024

KOTA KINABALU: The Mobile Home Caravan, an initiative by the Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC), is set to enhance rural tourism development in Sabah, according to Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Panglima Christina Liew.

She commended the Corporation for its innovative approach in launching this unique mobility solution—the first of its kind in Sabah—aimed at fostering tourism growth in the region.

"It is a novelty, something new for the state in providing unique experiences for domestic and international tourists alike. With a combination of comfort and practicality, this mobile home caravan is the perfect choice for travel enthusiasts," Liew said after a guided tour of the facilities available in the caravan, accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of SCC Datuk George Taitim Tulas on Friday.

Priced at RM120,000.00, the caravan of the Goway Series model measuring 3,800mm long and 2,100mm wide with a height of 2,400mm was the centre of attraction at the Big Sabah Sale event launched by the Minister at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

Manufactured in China, its key features include a solar charging system, an air-conditioner, a clean water tank, a wastewater tank, and a bath area. It has an accommodation capacity of two adults and two kids.

Briefing Christina on the rationale behind the caravan, Taitim said SCC has the state economy in mind, given that tourism is one of the three main economic sectors generating revenue for Sabah.

"For enhancement, the tourism sector needs to be supported, expanded and capitalised on. Furthermore, it provides the small entrepreneurs with an avenue to participate in the tourism industry in an affordable and easy way.

"At the same time, we are offering job opportunities to unemployed graduates and school-leavers, especially those who aspire to venture into tourism entrepreneurship," he explained.

In response to a question from the Minister, Taitim said SCC will provide financing facilities, training and guidance for potential owners/operators, and service and maintenance for them.
