No extra holiday for Sabah

5 September 2024

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Cabinet has reached a decision not to designate September 17 as an additional public holiday in lieu of September 16.

"This year, Malaysia Day falls on September 16, which coincides with Maulidur Rasul (Prophet Muhammad's birthday), also a public holiday," stated Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor in a statement today.

The State Cabinet has determined that there will be no substitution of a public holiday for the following day within the public sector.

Regarding the private sector, Hajiji mentioned that it will be at the employers' discretion whether to grant their employees a holiday on September 17.

Furthermore, Hajiji announced the participation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the national-level Malaysia Day celebration to be hosted by Sabah on September 16.

The celebration, jointly organized by the Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Environment and the federal Ministry of Communications, will take place at Padang Merdeka.
