KOTA KINABALU: Cherish your life. Stay away from drugs. Say no to drugs! Substance abuse destroys lives, shatters families, and undermines the potential of our youth. We must remain vigilant about the dangers of drug abuse, a pervasive global crisis. It is imperative to make the right choices in life.

Leaders, educators, parents, and concerned citizens must unite to cultivate a drug-free environment for future generations. Prevention begins with us—it originates in our homes, schools, and communities.

This poignant message was delivered at the premiere screening of the "No More Drugs" movie, aimed at schools, workplaces, and local communities. The event was organised by Lions Clubs International District 308-A2 in Sabah at the Glory Christian Centre on Friday night.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Seri Christina Liew, led the 2,000-strong audience, primarily composed of young people, in chanting "No More Drugs." She launched the movie, which depicts real-life struggles, the repercussions of poor choices, and the harsh realities of substance abuse.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS) was the primary sponsor of the event. Liew presented a donation of RM30,000 to Organising Chairperson Alyssa Lim to support the screening. Senior Pastor of Glory Christian Centre, Rev Dr. William Vun, expressed his gratitude to the minister for this contribution.

The minister reminded the youth from schools, colleges, universities, youth organisations, and community groups that life is full of possibilities. "Do not let drugs rob you of your future. Surround yourself with positive influences, focus on your dreams, and never hesitate to seek help if you encounter challenges."

Liew asserted, "This 'No More Drugs' movie serves as a wake-up call. Each individual lost to drugs represents a lost dream, a fractured family, and a weakened community. Let us stand united in our commitment to saying No More Drugs! May this event herald a renewed effort in our battle against substance abuse. Together, we can create a safer, healthier, and drug-free Sabah."

She commended Lions Clubs International for their unwavering dedication to community service. "Your commitment to enhancing society through initiatives like this exemplifies the true essence of leadership and compassion. By raising awareness of the dangers of drugs through this film, you are playing a vital role in shaping a healthier and safer future for our community."

The minister stressed that the fight against drugs is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement or government agencies; rather, it is a collective responsibility, and each of us has a part to play in safeguarding our society from this menace.

Events like the "No More Drugs" movie premiere are crucial as they serve as platforms for awareness, education, and prevention. Liew pledged continued support for similar anti-drug abuse campaigns in the future, with Lim remaining as Organising Chairperson.

"Together, we are stronger. Together, we can make a real difference," Lim declared in her earlier address.
