Official opening of MOCCIS Cooperative's Boutique Hotel and flood relief donation for Penampang

5 July 2024

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick officiated the opening of the MOCCIS Boutique Hotel owned by the Cooperative of Malaysian Malay Officers (MOCCIS) and celebrated the cooperative's 90th anniversary.

During the event, Ewon, who is also the Member of Parliament for Penampang, received a donation of RM15,000 from MOCCIS for flood victims in Penampang.

"On behalf of the residents of Penampang, I express my gratitude and appreciation for the concern shown by all ministry agencies, cooperatives, and everyone involved in sincerely assisting flood victims in Penampang.

"Thank you to MOCCIS for the contribution provided. The same goes for SKM and IKMA who joined me in distributing aid to flood-affected residents in Penampang last Tuesday and Wednesday," he said.

He said this in his speech at the celebration of MOCCIS's 90th anniversary and the opening of the MOCCIS Boutique Hotel here yesterday.

Also present were the Chairman of the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM) Lieutenant General (Rtd) Datuk Ahmad Norihan Jalal, MOCCIS Chairman Ahmad Sobri Wan Teh, SKM officials, and cooperative members.

Regarding the cooperative, Ewon hopes that it will continue to progress and contribute to the country's economy.

"MOCCIS has various businesses and services that are growing in line with the 90 years since the establishment of this cooperative, making it one of the oldest and most prominent Malay cooperatives in Malaysia.

"The role of cooperatives is crucial as a complement to the government and private sector in filling gaps in developing states and the country as a whole," he said.
