KOTA KINABALU: Warisan’s true motive on cutting ties with Pakatan Harapan Sabah is because they want to contest in all seats in Sabah alone, claim Democratic Action Party (DAP) Assistant Secretary Cum Adun Likas Tan Lee Fatt.

He was responding to Warisan’s Information Chief, Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah’s statement who mentioned that it is not because they dislike Pakatan Harapan (PH) but it is to make it easier for Warisan to contest in all seats.

“It is utterly disappointing to learn about Warisan’s true motive on cutting ties with Pakatan Harapan Sabah is because they want to contest in all seats in Sabah alone.

“With that, I would like to thank his honesty for clearing the air. Finally, the true motives behind the relentless, baseless allegations and attacks toward DAP Sabah are revealed.

“Now, the people can clearly see the propaganda of Warisan to realign themselves as the third force to contest all seats on themselves. Now we know the reason why Warisan has been distancing themselves from DAP and PH, not for the MoU but for their own benefits,” Tan said in a statement today.

Tan said, it is disheartening to witness the departure of Warisan from the opposition bloc as they are desperately seeking to return to the government by working with any coalition that wins the upcoming General Election.

“Not only are they willing to compromise their principles, but they also want to kill off their allies by taking their seats for themselves, to possibly work with the UMNO-led Barisan Nasional coalition.

“This is daylight betrayal not only to DAP and PH but also to the people who trusted the Warisan-PH alliance,” he added.

Tan stated that, an effort to unite all Opposition parties and form a team of ‘Avengers’ is no longer possible after Awang declared Warisan’s stance to go solo.

“We have reiterated and made our stance clear many times, DAP Sabah is only willing to cooperate with like-minded parties such as MUDA that share common values and principles to stop UMNO and the BN hegemony from returning to Sabah and snatch the rights of Sabahans. We want a team of ‘Avengers’ to fight against the UMNO-led BN but Warisan seems to disagree.

“Unfortunately, our former ally, Warisan is willing to compromise its principles and stance of fighting against UMNO and BN after its president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal declared that he is willing to work with any coalition that wins in the upcoming General Election including BN, PN and Pejuang,” he said.

Tan alleged that Warisan has been very delusional after expanding its wings to Peninsular Malaysia and categorise themselves as a local party in Sabah but then promoting national unity in their campaign in Peninsular Malaysia.

“In comparison, DAP has been consistent in promoting a Malaysian Malaysia and safeguarding the rights of Sabahans. Recently, DAP and PH Sabah reps have also taken the Federal Government to Court to reclaim the 40 per cent revenue sharing entitled to Sabah under the constitution.

“How could Warisan claim themselves as a local party while expanding their wings to other states like Johor, Selangor, KL, Penang and Negeri Sembilan? We believe that Sabahans would review for themselves on Warisan’s position,” he added.

“Now with the departure of Warisan from the Opposition bloc to become an opportunistic third force, the genuine Opposition, Pakatan Harapan and MUDA are now left with no choice but to strengthen ourselves and gear up for the upcoming elections.

“We have experienced numerous setbacks and betrayals, from Sheraton Move to Warisan’s departure, but the PH will always stay firm with our struggle alongside with the people,” he said.
