KUALA LUMPUR: A strategic partnership between the government, represented by the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative (MEDC) and PERODUA as the anchor company will empower Bumiputera vendors registered with PERODUA to enhance their capabilities, expertise, and reputation.

This collaboration will open doors for them to pursue additional opportunities in the future.

MEDC Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said this during the inauguration of Project Enhancement Ceremony: Automated Storage and retrieval system (ASRS) for the innovation and Commercialisation Vendor Grant (ICVG) by Ingress AOI Technologies Sdn Bhd and PERODUA, today.

He said the Government through MEDC places great emphasis on the development of entrepreneurs, especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), in line with the roles and functions entrusted.

To ensure the continuity of the Bumiputera Economic Empowerment Agenda and achieve the goals of the National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030 or NEP 2030 to make Malaysia an entrepreneurial nation, the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Coporative (MEDC) initiated the Vendor Development Programme (PPV) and continues to strengthen it from time to time.

Ewon said in implementing this programme, MEDC established strategic partnerships with 33 Anchor companies comprising key players in the country's industries, one of which is PERODUA.

"The implementation of PPV is critical as a key initiative of Strategic Core 5 to Strengthen the Capacity and Performance of MSMEs. This initiative focuses on the participation of new Anchor companies consisting of government-linked companies (GLCs), Multinational Companies (MNCs), the establishment of multi-tiered vendors, and the expansion of high-growth sectors.

PPV vendors are part of the MSME ecosystem that encompasses more than one million businesses in Malaysia and contributed 38.4 percent to the GDP in 2022. This contribution rate is targeted to increase to 41 percent by 2025," he elaborated.

The PPV platform opens opportunities for vendors registered with Anchor company to receive training guidance, technical assistance, advisory services, and research development, he said adding that the programmes implemented under the PPV platform are the Innovation and Vendor Commercialization Grant (GIPV) and the Vendor Capacity and Capability Development Program (PPKV), serving as pillars for the success of targeted programmes aimed at developing competent and high-performing vendors.

"GIPV provides grant assistance to stimulate the growth and success of innovation by Bumiputera vendor companies by enhancing research and commercialization levels in manufacturing operations and service management to become more competitive," he said.

Meanwhile, PPKV is grant assistance to vendor companies to enhance the capacity and capabilities of vendor companies through training, accreditation, certification, and market access, thereby increasing opportunities for vendor companies to penetrate domestic and international markets.

According to Ewon, through initiatives driven by collaboration with Anchor companies like PERODUA, it can simultaneously develop the capabilities and hone the potential of Bumiputera vendors in line with the Empowerment Agenda for Bumiputera Economy.

" I believe that PERODUA has a network of Bumiputera vendors who have benefited from this programme and have the opportunity to gain experience and strengthen their innovations to face the current challenges of the global economy," he said.

Also present during the event were Datuk Rameli Musa, Deputy Chairman of Ingress Corporation Berhad Group, Dato' Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, President and Chief Executive Officer of PERODUA, Mohd Sirajuddean Ab Rahim, Group Managing Director of Ingress Corporation Berhad, and Chek Zainuddin Chek Jusoh Division Secretary, Franchise Development and Vendor MEDC.
