PENAMPANG: The Penampang Health Clinic has recently expanded its facilities with the construction of a new building adjacent to the existing structure, providing additional space and storage for the rehabilitation and tuberculosis (TB) areas.

This new building which serves as a storage space, measuring 20 by 60 feet, is comprised of two cabins combined to create a larger area.

It will serve as a storage facility for the physiotherapy section, housing essential rehabilitation equipment such as treadmills and exercise balls.

Additionally, records from the TB wards will be stored in this facility for a minimum of seven years before their eventual destruction.

Dr. Aini Simon Sumeh, the Head of the Health Clinic, shared that the total cost of the building, along with a waiting area constructed in the mother and Child Clinic, amounted to RM200,000.

She expressed her gratitude to Penampang Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Ewon Benedick for his generous contribution to the project.

Dr. Aini recounted, "During Datuk Ewon's visit with members of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) at the Christmas celebration in December 2023, we highlighted the need for additional space in our clinic to accommodate our assets. He kindly agreed to donate a cabin, and construction commenced last September, culminating in its completion this month."

Dr. Aini further stated, "We are immensely grateful to the MP for his attentiveness to our concerns and for providing us with this cabin, which will significantly enhance the services offered at the Penampang Health Clinic and accord us storage space."

Ewon, who also serves as the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, inspected the project last week and expressed satisfaction with its timely completion.

The construction of the rehabilitation and tuberculosis storage building at the Penampang Polyclinic was funded through a special allocation from the MP which included the establishment of a waiting area in the Mother and Child Clinic.

During a brief ceremony today, Dr. Aini received the keys to the new facility from Penampang parliamentary liaison officer Bryan Matasing who represented Ewon, accompanied by Alvin Lee from the MP’s Office and Billy Joe Dominic, the Penampang United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) Youth Chief.
