KOTA KINABALU: The people of Sabah are advised not to be easily influenced by viral video clips alleging that several Sabah State Assembly members (ADUN) are involved in corruption, which is believed to be orchestrated by the opposition to tarnish the image of the State Government.
The former President of the Honorary Members Association of the Malaysian Volunteer Department (Rela) in Sabah, Brig. Gen. (Honorary) Rela, Dato' Jerry Ambuting Mohd Said, stated that the viral video clips are not credible as they have not been reported to the police or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“If the person spreading the video is truthful, they would have surely reported what they claim to be acts of corruption to the police or the MACC.
“Why hasn’t the person reporting the video made a complaint to the police or the MACC, but instead only shared the video on social media?
"This indicates that the video is merely fabricated and disseminated for personal gain, intentionally linking government ADUNs with motives to defame and damage their reputation and that of the State Government,” he said in a statement today, commenting on the video clip currently circulating on social media.
In this regard, Jerry reminded the public not to be easily swayed by these corruption allegations based solely on a few video recordings shared on social media.
He also hopes that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will take appropriate action regarding the spread of the video clip.
Jerry further praised and supported the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, for requesting the MACC to investigate the issue.
On Monday, Hajiji requested the MACC to investigate an audio recording of an ADUN that went viral, allegedly discussing corruption worth hundreds of thousands of ringgit.
In a news report Hajiji said the State Government will cooperate with MACC on the issues concerned.
