Petrosains PlaySmart: A Popular Choice for Families During the School Holidays

KOTA KINABALU: As the school holidays continue, Petrosains PlaySmart Kota Kinabalu remains a popular choice for families seeking fun, educational and engaging experiences at this mini science discovery centre.

Operated by PETRONAS Sdn Bhd under the national iconic institution, Petrosains, The Discovery Centre®, Petrosains PlaySmart Kota Kinabalu was officially launched in January 2012 as the third satellite science centre of its kind in Malaysia.

Established in collaboration with the Sabah State Library, the centre offers a unique and interactive approach to learning in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Located within the Sabah State Library in Luyang, the centre features a variety of engaging exhibits and dynamic outreach activities designed to make STEM subjects enjoyable and inspiring for visitors of all ages.

Families can explore interactive displays and hands-on activities that spark curiosity and foster creativity, including mathematics and science puzzles, mini robotics, and more.

Visitors can also participate in educational demonstrations, explore engaging exhibits such as the Tech Lab, and experience hands-on simulations like the Mini Excavator Operator and the F1 Simulator.

These activities provide a fun and immersive learning experience—all free of charge.

Parents visiting the centre have expressed their delight, noting that their children thoroughly enjoy the exhibits.

“My kids absolutely love coming here,” said Cynthia Wong, a mother of two from Kota Kinabalu. “They get to learn while having fun, and I appreciate that admission is free.”

Another parent, Md. Zulkamal, who traveled from Labuan with his family, shared his enthusiasm. “It was definitely worth the trip. My children were fascinated by the hands-on exhibits and the science shows. We will definitely come again.”

Beyond its exhibitions, Petrosains PlaySmart Kota Kinabalu continues to plan exciting programmes.

One of the upcoming highlights for February is Ecofrontiers: Tech That Saves The Planet 2025, an open-to-all event featuring a variety of exciting and educational activities focused on sustainable technology and environmental innovation.
