PENAMPANG: In Sabah, the harmonious coexistence of diverse communities has been a hallmark of the region's social fabric.

The recent statement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stating that there will be no new guidelines for Muslims visiting Non-Muslims during their celebrations will reinforce positive relationship among people from various religious backgrounds.

"His acknowledgment that there should be no guidelines regarding Muslims visiting non-Muslim celebrations highlights the spirit of mutual respect and understanding that characterises Sabah & Sarawak," Dr Peter Jr Naintin, United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) Information Chief said.

Speaking to Nabalu News, he stated that this open-minded approach will continue to foster a sense of community, allowing people of different faiths to come together in joy and celebration.

"We believe it reflects the values of inclusivity and acceptance that are essential for social cohesion."

Such sentiments not only strengthen interfaith bonds but also promote peace and tolerance within the broader Malaysian society, he stated.

"We thank the Prime Minister for his decision as it reinforce the idea that cultural and religious diversity should be celebrated rather than seen as a barrier."

His support encourages continued dialogue and interaction among different communities, and Sabah remains a model of unity in diversity, Dr Peter stressed.

'The ultimate path to build our nation, and achieve a perfect union is by acknowledging our diversity. This is where we can start to make our union grows stronger, he added.

Anwar recently reversed a controversial proposal to issue guidelines for Muslims wishing to participate in non-Muslim events, announcing that his Cabinet has decided to abandon the idea.

"There is no need for such guidelines because, as Muslims, they should already understand the dos and don’ts," he stated on February 7, following the weekly Cabinet meeting.
