Pope Francis Remains in Critical but Stable Condition – Vatican

26 February 2025
VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, remains in critical but stable condition, the Vatican has confirmed.
In an update on Tuesday evening, the Vatican shared that the 88-year-old pontiff had experienced no acute respiratory episodes and that his haemodynamic parameters remained stable.
“In the evening, he underwent a scheduled CT scan to radiologically monitor the bilateral pneumonia. The prognosis remains cautious. In the morning, after receiving the Eucharist, he resumed work activities,” the statement said.
Pope Francis has been receiving treatment at Gemelli Hospital since 14 February for double pneumonia.
A health update last week indicated that he is also exhibiting signs of mild renal insufficiency, though this remains under control.
A statement issued on Monday evening noted that, despite the gravity of his condition, the Pope had shown slight improvement.
“No asthma-like respiratory distress occurred on Monday, and some lab tests showed improvement. His mild kidney insufficiency remains stable. Oxygen therapy continues with a slightly reduced flow.”
On Sunday, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis had undergone a blood transfusion to increase his haemoglobin levels – source Vatican News
