3 October 2024

KOTA KINABALU: An 11-year-old girl has triumphed in the school-level preliminary round of the 2024 Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest, organized by the Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Capital.

Amber Ashenvie Roilyzius, a Primary 5 student from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pukak, Tuaran, won the contest with her artwork, which was chosen from 18 submissions by her peers.

Her piece brilliantly captures the theme "Peace Without Limits."

Amber’s artwork will advance to District 308-A2 for further judging, with the possibility of progressing even further in the competition.

The poster contest is an annual global initiative aimed at inspiring young people to express their vision of peace through art.

The judging ceremony at SK Pukak Tuaran was attended by District 308-A2 Zone 18 Chairperson Lanice Fo, Senior Assistant (Administration and Curriculum) Kohaye Kuasah, Organising Chairperson Felicia Soo and Club President Regina Sulit.

They were accompanied by other members from KK Capital, including Josephine Pang, Angela Chang, and Grace Lee, all of whom praised Amber's exceptional artwork.

Amber’s achievement was made possible not only by her talent but also by the dedication of her teachers and the strong support from the school.

The school played an essential role in fostering an environment that nurtures creativity and encourages students to reflect on peace-oriented themes.

Special appreciation was extended to teachers Priscilla Koek and Sylvia for their guidance and mentorship throughout the contest preparation.

The poster contest has long served as a platform for young artists like Amber to convey their vision of a peaceful world.

This year’s theme holds particular significance, reminding us of the importance of unity, compassion, and understanding across all boundaries.
