TAWAU: Residents of Kg Rancangan Batu 22 in Balung have requested that the abandoned balai raya be restored as a multi-purpose centre.
PKR Kg Rancangan Batu 22 branch head Suriansah Berahim conveyed the people's wish to Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew during a recent dialogue at the village.
"Once restored, the old balai raya can serve as a centre for various programmes involving men, women and children from the village community. All useful activities can be held here," he said.
Liew said she would consider the villages' request as restoration of the balai raya would be beneficial to the people. During her inspection, she found that the facility had been vandalised as the lights and fans were missing. The toilet was also in bad shape.
Meanwhile, she met an active women's group named 'Kumpulan Selawat Nurul Huda Bt 22' led by Rosmia Karim who briefed the former on their activities which included playing the kompang, education classes on family well-being and classes on human development.
The MP added that she would look into the women's requests for sewing-machines for the use of members interested in sewing clothes as an income-generating activity.
