KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) has today queried if the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) is running out of funds, following the resumption of parking fee collection.

Its Chief of Kota Kinabalu Branch Samuel Wong in a statement lamented that the resumption is untimely and that the mayor should be sympathetic and compassionate while the state is still battling the Covid-19 pandemic.

"DBKK should know that the economy is in a downward spiral and many businesses, especially micro-businesses and small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) have either shut down or been disallowed to open.

"People have lost their jobs and income. Many are unemployed and have resorted to doing odd jobs," he said.

Wong added the current administration should emulate the previous Warisan administration's policies.

"During these difficult times, DBKK should be thinking of how to keep money in the rakyat's pockets instead of finding ways to take out money from the rakyat's pockets.

"Why resume parking tickets, knowing well that it would lead to compounds for failure to do so? Basically, the spending power of the people has been greatly reduced.

"The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government should emulate the previous administration's policies like postponing assessment fees, parking coupons, compounds, discount on utility bills and so forth," he urged.

Following that, he stressed that DBKK should postpone the parking fee collection for another three months and waive compounds issued since June 1.

"Let's focus on the people first by helping them to go through this 'unfortunate storm'.”
