Sabah Covid caseload skyrockets to 712

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is shaken by its daily Covid-19 cases that have today soared to a staggering 712, compared to 516 cases yesterday.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said this brings the cumulative total of statewide Covid-19 infections to 78,652.
He also mentioned in his press statement today that eight more fatalities were reported - three in Sandakan and one each in Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Kudat, Tawau and Beluran.
He said close contact screening contributed the most number today with 383 cases, which is more than 50 per cent of the total.
“This is followed by cluster screening that identified 122 cases, while 88 cases were detected through targeted screening, 82 through symptomatic screening and 37 from other categories.
“Currently, 19 districts have been declared as red zones, while five districts have turned into orange zones, and three into yellow zones. There are no green zones left in Sabah,” he added.
The number of active cases now stands at 3,541 with 593 currently treated at hospitals, 2,256 in quarantine centres and 692 in temporary detention centres.
“The number of patients that are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 68 with 18 requiring ventilator support," he stated.
As for recoveries, a total of 366 discharges were reported today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries in Sabah to 73,060.
